A thought-provoking blog article from Psychology Today caught my eye late last week. It spoke to one of the most common observations I have made about why we struggle to succeed in accomplishing our goals or fulfilling our dreams.

Disaster

The day before yesterday I used TypePad's QuickPost feature to save a link for later editing on my FutureHIT blog. As I said in the book, I normally do that a few times a week when I come across something I know I want to blog about, but don't have time at the moment. Normally, I set the post to 'draft' status until I edit it, so people don't get enigmatic posts from me. The format of the raw QuickPost entry is, well, pretty raw.

The day before yesterday, one slipped through unedited. Arrgh!! The kicker was that it appeared on Monday, a day when traffic peaks on that blog (and many others). I had almost double the average number of visitors, all of whom got a weird impression of what I do there.

Do what I say, not what I do. Advice I will try to follow myself, from now on. I don't feel like it's a total disaster, though - worse, much worse things could happen.  As Yogi Berra used to say, "After all, nobody's human!"

Fiercely independent, often unpaid, answering to no editor, except perhaps their Internet audience, bloggers are writing for their own satisfaction or to share their views with family, friends and anyone who happens to stumble across their dispatches in cyberspace.  ...They often like to imply that because they are beholden to no editor or publisher, their work is more honest and pure than that of the poor wretches who report and write for a living. But now they have discovered they're fair game for manipulation by rich corporations who have always been ready to throw around money to influence journalists' with all sorts of blandishments, dinners, sports events, travel junkets and expensive high-tech toys.

So true, so true...
