Today we'll look at my SiteMeter stats and see how my search engine optimization (SEO) effort is going. Bottom line: it's moving along nicely, but it's time to punch it up another notch. We'll talk about how I'm going to do that. These new tasks will mark the start of another phase.
Future of Health IT This Year's Visits by Month |
As you can see from the above graph and table (taken from my SiteMeter account), my SEO effort (which started at the beginning of June) is a huge success. June was my best month ever, and July is better than June - and it's not over! And this is happening in the heat of summer (for us here in the Northern Hemisphere), which is traditionally the slowest time for Internet activity. I'm convinced the advice I'm giving you is working for me.
Here's more proof: When I started, I was getting a little under half my referrals from search engines. Now I'm almost to 60%, as you can see from the table below. The table also shows you the terms the people who find me are using:

There are some non sequiturs - who submits '%2' as a query to Google, for Pete's sake? - but by and large I'm starting to be found on keyword variations that reflect the title of my blog.
So what's next? What I have more or less held off on doing for the past two months, even though I knew it was the right thing to do, is to get involved in the ongoing conversation among fellow health information technology bloggers. This will improve my PageRank. To get a nice tutorial on PageRank, check out the post entitled What Is Google PageRank? A Guide For Searchers & Webmasters in the Search Engine Land blog.
